Was a very popular Library which was given to the people of the city by Lord Armstrong and frequented by many local residents until its closure by Labour ran Newcastle Council. After a series of complaints following the deaths of a few people who went and lost the will to live after its closure the Labour party refused to deal with the issue and it was left closed. The Liberal party have now sold the building off which is very strange when its not the Local Governments property, the Heaton Library Development Group (with some former Labour councillors) tried to buy it but were turned down which was probably because Sheila Spencer closed it down and was in the group trying to buy it which seemed fraudulent.
