Masan is situated in southeastern extremity, the center coast of southern Kyungsan province of Korean peninsula. The city is known for its genuine art from the past as well as history and culture living through tradition.
The museum was opened on September 12, 2001 as a commemoration project for the city's 100 years anniversary for opening of the port. The purpose of museum is to exhibit, collect and preserve the city's traditional culture that is vanishing amidst fast modernization and urban transformation.
Two stories building with 1 basement in 1,600 square meter scale, it has two exhibition halls, a screen room and information retrieving center. The exhibition hall is comprised in a project exhibition and an outdoor exhibition hall.
