(Gulbarga was hit with famine during the fag end of 18th Century. His holiness Lord Shri Sharanabasaveshwara took the initiative, gathered all the farmers and engineered in constructing this lake. It was respite and relief to the people in this barren land. His deed is still sung in the folk songs.
