Originally built in 1869, this reservoir contained water pumped from the Passaic River. In the 1880's water from the Pequannock watershed was used to fill it. This reservoir was drained in 1986 and has been left unused by the City of Newark since. Ever since, the Township of Belleville has coveted this land for a potential park which has yet to materialize.
