According to the Winston-Salem Journal:

What has happened to Robert Porth? I grew up in this area and remember the Porth murder case. Is he still alive, and what happened? -- P.C.

A. In February 1966, Robert E. Porth was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Hilda Porth. Her body was found in the woods in southwestern Virginia. Porth claimed that she had died in a fall, but he dumped her body over a remote hillside because he feared that he would be blamed for her death.

Porth was released from prison on parole in 1977, when he was 70 years old; he completed his parole in 1982. Little has been published about Porth since his release. In 1994, SAM reported that Porth was retired and living on a boat near Washington, N.C.

According to the Social Security Death Index, Porth died on Feb. 3, 1998.

  • Wanda Kennedy. She was a wonderful woman. I have often wondered what happened to her. Her husband was a banker. I believe his name was Glenn.
