Devgarh, also known as Devgad or Deogarh, is a coastal city in Sindhudurg District of Maharashtra state in western India. Devgarh is located on the Arabian Sea in the coastal Konkan region of Maharashtra, south of Mumbai.

  • Devgad is not famous for Alphanso Mangos. Is famous for HAPUS MANGOS. Alphanso is one of the trader whos sailing mangos by his name.

Alphonso (हापुस Haapoos in Marathi, Aapoos in North Karnataka Kannada) is a Mango cultivar that is considered by many to be one of the best in terms of sweetness and flavor. It is named after Afonso De Albuquerque. This was an exquisite and expensive variety of mango, that he used to bring on his journeys to Goa. The locals took to calling it Aphoos in Konkani and in Maharashtra the pronunciation got further corrupted to Hapoos. This variety then was taken to the Konkan region of Maharashtra and other parts of India. It is especially famous for its long shelf life. It is also one of the most expensive kinds of mango and is grown mainly in western India. It is in season April through May. The southern district of Ratnagiri and northern parts of Sindhudurg in Maharashtra state, including regions around the Devgad and Taluka, produce the finest quality alphonso mangoes in India. Alphonso is also cultivated largely in Pune. The southern districts of Valsad and Navsari in Gujarat state and particularly Alphonso mangoes from the Amalsad region (including villages such as Dhamadachha, Kacholi, and all villages of Gandevi) produce Alphonso mangoes as well. Southern States in India are also major mango producing areas. From north to south, climatic changes occur which result in differences in the quality of the produce. Even in Ratnagiri and Devgad the finest fruit comes from a patch of 20 Kms from the seashore. The variety grown in Devgad in the Kokan region of Maharashtra is supposed to be the best. It's also the most expensive amongst the sub-breeds of Alphonso.

  • It is my Native places. But I dont have more information about it. But I will say everybody says Devgad is famous for Hapoos Mango but aome other things also very famous in Devgad i.e Forts in Devgad, Kashuenuts, Kokam, Jackfruit, spices etc. Ther rae so many temples to visit so you must visit Devagad once.

  • Hi, I am from Devgad. Actually I am from Mond, Tal. Devgad. It is 10 k.m. from Devgad. My Grandfather & then after my father leave at Jamsande. Jamsande is the heart of the Devgad City. It is well known for Alphonso Mangoes. Most of our Mangoes can export in Gulf & Middle East Countries. Claimet is very good. Sea shore is beautiful. Many picnic point & film shouting point in Devgad. I love Devgad.

  • Devgad is my native place. I studied in Sheth Mafatlal High School Devgad till my 8th Standard when Dr.Tengshe was Principal of my school. Later on I shifted to Mumbai and I completed my graduation from R>A>Podar College Matunga and Law degrr in K>C>College churchgate.I also comleted post graduate diploma cource from Bhavans College Choupatty Girgaon. I was Foreign Exchage Head of Nationalised Bank in Mumbai. by S.T. Mondkar Kalvi.
