Sarinda - HDML ML1392

United Kingdom / England / Heswall /

Sarinda - HDML ML1392, is a old 72ft UK WW2 ship that took part in the Operation Neptune Invasion of Normandy 149th ML Flotilla. On 6/6/44 Sarinda served as Channel Marker at Gold Beach on D-Day distributing instructions in the assault anchorage after the first landings on Normandy. On 6/3/45 Sarinda captured a German Biber Type midget submarine off Breskens in the Scheldt Estuary.

In 1979 Sarinda underwent an extensive conversion to luxury motor yacht. However, she suffered extensive damage in a storm several years ago and was abandoned, left to deteriorate.

Recently a couple saw that this historic ship was about to go to scrap and decided to rescue the ship by purchasing it and restoring her. Due to limited funds, it is expected that this restoration will take many years to complete as they are doing all the work themselves on the weekends. Most of this work is expected to be done where the ship rests in its present location in Heswall Shore.
