Designed c. 1925 in the Colonial Revival by Peabody, Wilson & Brown as consulting architects to the Office of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury. It was one of the 136 new post offices constructed as part of the Public Buildings Act of 1926. A. J. Paretta Contracting Co. was the builder. Uncommon for most of the sites, the interior did not feature any artwork.

Located at Main and First Streets, the Mineola Post Office was added in the National Register of Historic Places in 1989 (#88002354) under the significance areas of architecture and politics/government.
