Youngest city in Belgium. Created in 1979 to host the french speaking belgians that were evicted from the university of Leuven (Louvain) after major street protests that started in 1968 to keep the city of Leuven within the Flemish Territory of what was to become the federal country Belgium.
The French speaking university got half the library of the university of Leuven, taking intermitent one book in French and one book in Dutch. Thus leaving a mix of Dutch and French books in Leuven.

You're mistaken the city of Louvain-La-neuve has been created in 1969 after the 1968 events of Leuven. ;)

The central Library was divided following the even/odd catalog numbering of the books, F.I. Y23,Y24, Y25 etc. Nothing to do with Dutch French mixing. Some books are in Latin, Greek, ... For gifts, it was asked to the family of the donators, to wich University it has to go. Complete Encyclopedias were not split. More specialised libraries were not split.

It was imagined in 1969 but the first buildings were made in 1973.
