The station, which has tasks related to military signals intelligence, was established shortly after World War II.
It has been permanently operational since the early 1950s, and was gradually expanded over several decades during the Cold War.
The last expansion, with new buildings, took place in 1996.
The station is also responsible for an administration and support element at Høybuktmoen and a collection unit at Viksjøfjell, both in Sør-Varanger municipality.
