  • Thats mad stuff, I was at Normanton School form 1988 when it turned into a Mixed School thats when Girls joined the school under The dude of a Headmaster called Mr.Smith and Deputy Mr.Wilson oddly the school closed down (ca.1995/1998ish) Board of govenors 1st the Heads of the school, then 2 by 2 pupils kept being susspended then expelled under the new board of govenors, its not like they could afford to do such as why it turned into a Mixed School with Girls. Property & Development is the reason, like I said to fellow pupils 1991 before I was expelled, you watch it won't be open for much longer. "Oddly it seems I'm proven correct, coincidence like always".
  • I was at this school between from 1940 till 1943 the Head master was called Mr Hyland. His wife believed in long bracing walks. We seemed to go on a 2 mile walk every day and 5 - 8 miles every Saturday and Sunday. The schools location us such that whichever direction you walked it was always uphill. I have been left with a hatred of walking anywhere. Other abiding memories are extreme cold in winter.

  • I was also a pupil at normanton school. I believe it was 1996 ; I was there briefly. a matter of months, eight to be precise. I cant remember to much except being in the Churchill house wearing yellow football clothing and there were other houses such as chamberlain and Montgomery and can never remember the fourth. but was wondering does anyone have any school photos from that period. I don't remember any ones name except somebody called starksky or starky I believe he had a sister which was there too and they both were from Buxton. other than that not much really except I hated the place and did not want to be there as I was from the city. my email address is blacksmithselectricals@hotmail.co.uk for any one who would like to get in touch.
  • My days at Normanton (61-63)were far from good .I was a rebel always absconding,i think i held the record for running away.Regular beatings from (Taffy) Rodgers and Hadley became a weekly ritual, but eventually one became hardend.I remember returning from summer holidays in 63 having a difference with Taffy, walking down from Edgemoor catching the train from Buxton and arriving home before my parents. Some good memories but not many ,would love to hear from any boarders from that era. nick@ncsc.fsbusiness.co.uk
  • I was a pupil from 1953 to 1957 and loved every minute of it. There was an old abandoned mansion located deep in the woods behind the school grounds - all windows smashed, rotting floors, a wide staircase that swayed deliciously while you tried to ascend it, and faded wall paintings reminiscent of Egyptian tomb drawings. Naturally, it was forbidden to go there. Marvelous fun!
  • Hey Nick, I'm a Frank the Yank, I attended from in '74-75 to do my O levels, and I too got the cane from Taffy and Hanley. Almost got the boot after a fight but the Matron's Husband did my bidding for me and won me a stay. I had so many wonderful memories, of sneaking off into the "Serps" to spend time with the local girls, and getting Leave (what did they call it accommodation?) to play Rugby with the big guys, including the Phys Ed, Bio, and Chem teachers. Weekend's up at solomon's temple.. and so many more.
