  • Hi Dodie, I was there too, same place and same time. It's a great link that you have done for all us old Eggemoorians.
  • I was there in around 1960 Mr James headmaster Mr Rogers deputy Mr Willaims housemaster at Edgemoor. Not a great educational establishment but we had great fun and made good friends. Does anybody know what happened to Reza Dinary?? His ambition was always to become priminister of Iran?? make contact if you wish at: terbraak@btinternet.com p.s. what happened to the silver house cups?? I never did see my name engraved on it!
  • I was a student there at that time too! I remeber Mr Rodgers very well. I was caught one evening lighting off stink bombs under dorm carpets and the whole place had assembley down in the meeting hall.I was given 6 of the best by Hadley. Guess who I am?
  • I was a pupil at Normanton School from Sept 1953 to July 1958, started off in the juniors on St Johns Road and later at Edgemoor. I remember the old school bus, having to push it in the winter to start it, (is that really what our parents paid for) Mr James at the wheel. Mr Rogers was strict but his wife was a lovely person who cared for the juniors when they were ill. I can't remember the name of Matron at Edgemoor but what a battle axe, don't think anyone liked her and the Cascara. I fondly remember building dams in the stream in the woods, climbing trees bird watching around the bottom lake, swimming in the middle one and the studies above the bus garage, Sunday walks through the old train tunnel trying to miss the puddles. Mr Hadley was the sports master and gave loads of encouragement on the hockey pitch. Mr Larrard taught geography, I think he was Canadian but not sure. The vicar of Burbage church was so easily mislead during religious instruction to chat about things that happened to him during the war. I was friends with Roger Marshall from Leyland, Buster Beardsall from Girton Lincolnshire, Mousy Routon from Mablethorpe and John Bussle from Derby. Should anyone reading this and who was at school with me like to get in touch I'd like to hear from you mike_30950@yahoo.co.uk. Good luck to all, kind regards Mike

  • I remember you well. Do you remember Reza and Jawad Bader and Ali and Mazer Mahmood from Bahrain? Also Benny de Leeuw from Israel? Ghassan and Fouad (Hoss) Hassanyeh from Sierra Leone and Lebanon? Windham Ronald James was head (oh how easy it was to forge his signature to get an exeat!) 'Taffy'Rogers (his son-in-law) was a deputy along with Norman Hadley and Mr 'Oh no boy' Williams. Mr Rogers was house master at Edgemoor, Whitehouse at Red House, McDiarmid at Peaklands. Fred Jones taught geography, Matlin was games master, Rushforth taught chemistry. Happy days
  • Hi there I was at Normanton School 1972/73 with a stint in Edgmoor House. The school has since been knocked down, my brother recently visited the site and brought me back a sandstone brick and a slate tile from the roof as a present, did make me laugh. I remember Mr Hadley who used to do cigarette tricks in assembly, got us all going with that. He'd read out who'd got detention on Saturday morning not a good time that. Ran away from school many times with Egan, once all the way to Manchester. Remember getting hauled back to school where the cane was waiting for us - 6 each that time, tried putting paper down our trousers but if caught the penalty was worse. Football in the playground every day with the fence as goal posts. Cricket on those late evenings with the ball going over the roofs ending up in places we couldn't retrieve them. Rogers would chuck the blackboard rubber at us in class and Taffy would tell us all about Aberystwyth. Ozzi Ingram used to fall asleep while checking our books out in the library and the pen would scribe across the page - hilarious.
  • Yes I remember the Bader's and Mahmood's. Well I should, it was may father who recommended the school to their parents. lol - I lived in Bahrain back then. After Normanton moved to Austria then East Africa - MAny years in Kenya and eventually ended up in Tanzania (Mtwara)...
  • Noel Hadley & 'Jet' Matkin. Fred Jones emigrated to Alberta, Canada in 1965.
  • I am Eddie Lam from Hong Kong. I used to stay in Edgemoor from 1978 to 1980 and then Heathfield House after that time. Mr Dave Wood was the housemaster at Edgemoor at that time and he taught Maths at the School.
  • Hi yes, must have been there same time as myself....John Harrison, nickname "Doc", I was 15. Fouad was my best friend as was Naresh from India. My sister fell in love with Reza when she visited the school Great days of sneaking out at night when seniors got moved from Edgemoor to St Johns...sad it has been demolished....great days, even the weekly cane from Rogers!,,,now 73! love to hear from anyone at that time, teljohn13@yahoo.co.uk
  • Hi John I think I remember you at Normanton - I am John Tough and was at Edgemoor from 1958 -1961 when originally Mr MacFerson was housemaster with his two lovely daughters Anna and Jane. After that Mr Williams from Wales was housemaster. I was Head of House for a while and Deputy Head Boy when Beresford was Head Boy. I am now 74 and live in South London. I think somewhere I have a group photo with you in it. I remember Reza Dinari from what was then Persia - he was a great athlete and also Kenny Fong from Trinidad amongst others. Happy days in the glorious Peak District! If you'd like to drop me a line you can email me on Classicmister@aol.com.
