The "castle hill" of Kozanlı in central Turkey was inhabited since at least the Iron Age. Although the numerous inscribed stones discovered in the local cemeteries do not reveal the ancient name of the town, it is believed to be Greco-Roman Pitnissos or Petanissos (and, if so, probably also Bronze-Age Hittite Piddaniyasa).
