The first palace (Dar al Imara) was built in 635 AC and reconstructed be Ziyad in 644 but abondoned 784 and fell to ruins. The square palace with 180 m each side and fortified with strong walls and round towers served not only as a residence of the sovereign in the center of the site but also as baracks for the garrison which protected the palace.
