There was a gristmill operating on this site since as early as 1767. In the years immediately following the Civil War, a manufacturing facility was set up which made carriage parts. The advent of the automobile saw the facility transition to automotive parts. Today, the site is run as Rex Forge, a metal forging outfit. The historic buildings occupy roughly the southern half of the facility as it now exists.
