The fortress was built in the center of the village by the Saxon count Herbord of Wrbow, in the second part of the 13th century. The noble residence was fortified with a wall that delimited a circular enclosure and had a Romanesque keep.
In the 15th century the fortress was sold, becoming the property of the community. The Romanesque keep was transformed into a bell tower and after several centuries, in 1879, the upper part was transformed in neo-Gothic style.
