Back when there were hundreds of automobile manufacturers, many of them located their Chicago showrooms in the 2200-2500 blocks of South Michigan Avenue. These showrooms were designed by the likes of Albert Kahn and Holabird & Roche, and featured ornate stonework, often with the name of the auto company worked into the stone. Today, there are no automobile showrooms in this part of Michigan Avenue but many of the buildings remain.
Motor Row was designated a Chicago Landmark in 2000, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
