The archaeological site of Terravechia contains the scattered remains of the Samnite hilltop fortress of Saipins (which gave its name to later Roman Saepinum and modern Sepino). It was built in the 4th century BC. The site features walls and at least three gates, most notably the so-called Postern of Matese.
