Khagani Garden "malakanka" (Baku)

Azerbaijan / Baki / Baku

Unofficially named "Molokan square /garden", "malakanka" or "molokanka" (place of Molokans who had a market here at the edge of Old Baku. Developed into a park first named "Mariinsky" after the wife of Tsar Alexandr II. Name changed to "9 January" during Soviet times. In the 1990s, the Khagani Trade Center was built across from this park, named after the poet Khagani Shirvani (1120-1194), and the park was renamed "Khagani Garden" — the current official name. But, after all those official name changes, Azeris and tourists still prefer to simply call it the "Molokan Garden / Square", or "molokanka / malakanka". www.molokane.org/places/FSU/Azerbiadjian/Molokan_Garden...
