Birge Pond (Bristol, Connecticut)

USA / Connecticut / Bristol / Bristol, Connecticut

Once owned by the New Departure Division of General Motors to feed water for its ball bearing and forge plant, it was sold to the City of Bristol for $1.00 in the 70s (I think). For decades it layed dormant. Then the City of Bristol - with a little help of citizen activists - realized what a "woodsy-pondie" treasure they had on their hands. Now it is used as a passive recreation area (hiking, etc.)

this pond was once filled with junk and was highly polluted. now people have began to bring the pond bak to life to show its true beauty. there were many animals that began to die out from being in there such as swans and even cranes. this pond is used for hikeing, bikeing, and even a little quading shhhh. without the help we gave it would have been far from being able to be helped
