Mapleton is a city in section 4 of Mapleton Township, Blue Earth County, Minnesota. The population was 1,710 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Mankato–North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Mapleton was first settled in 1856, organized in 1861, and incorporated as a city in 1878. The first townsite was platted in section 7 in 1858 but was soon superseded by a new townsite platted in section 4 in 1871.

A post office was established in 1857, which was known as Mapleton, Old Mapleton, Hawkins, and then Mapleton Station until 1888, when it was reestablished as Mapleton.

Mapleton had a station of the Southern Minnesota Railroad, and Mapleton was served by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad from 1874 until 1979.
