monastery, interesting place, catholicism, listed building / architectural heritage

The Abbey of Mozac (Auvergne, France), near to Riom is classified as a historical monument and site of Roman civilization. The commune of Mozac and the association that promotes it, the Historical Club of Mozac, belong to the Federation of Sites pertaining to the Cluniac Order.

It owes its great reputation to the quality of the Roman capitals and of the reliquary of Saint Calmin (the abbey's founder), the greatest surviving reliquary in Limousin porcelain enamel.

Since the eighth or ninth centuries that abbey has also possessed the relics of Saint Austromoine, the first bishop of Clermont and evangelist of Auvergne. His bones are kept in a reliquary in painted wood from the sixteenth century.
