The Noirlac monastery is a former Cistercian abbey in the town Bruère-Allichamps at Saint-Amand-Montrond, in the department of Cher , Region Centre in France . It lies about 40 km south of Bourges on the right bank of the River Cher near a Roman road.
The monastery was built thanks to a foundation of ebb V., Lord of Charenton, founded in 1136 and a convent founded by Robert, probably the cousin of Bernard of Clairvaux , was settled. It was initially based in La Celle , but was soon moved to its present location at the edge of the forest of Meillant (Forêt de Meilland).
