Smuggler mine is the oldest surviving silver mine in the Aspen region, and the only remaining mine from Aspen's boom years. At its peak, Smuggler Mine was the source of about 20% of all silver mined worldwide. The largest nugget of silver ever unearthed came from here, a chunk weighing 1,840 pounds.
