Although one of the larger Army Airfields in Germany, little is known about it except that it is located at one of the birthplaces of german aviation. Since February 1975 the Army Airfield was also used by the Hessen-Flieger local flying club. The Army Airfield at Griesheim closed in 1992 (although army documents say 10.07.1998) and civil use as an airfield ceased then, too.
