Close to the origin of the Galwan river, in around May or June 1962 , a company of 1/8 Gorkha Rifles, built with basic tools and their bare hands, a post named Galwan FDL and a Helipad very close by, to the south-east. Another post to the further south was the Ration Party. Here they hoped to be connected to and supplied from the Shyok valley. It was also aimed to link up with Hotsprings in the south while running along the Changlung River.
