Visakhapatnam Junction (Hindi - विशाखापट्टनम जंक्शन, Telugu - విశాఖపట్నం జంక్షన్) is a major railway station located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. The railway station is under the control of East Coast Railway of Indian Railways. It stands on the Chennai Central -Howrah Station route, though the mainline bypasses the Central Station. Consequently a suburban halt on the mainline near Vizag Steel Plant, known as Duvvada, is being developed into a major station to improve services for the city. Visakhapatnam station is in the east coast railways and will be very soon having 10 platforms. The first in east coast railways to have these many platforms. All platforms can accommodate trains with 28 coaches.

Earlier there was a rumour that the Duvvada station would handle non terminating trains thus cutting the journey by atlest 1 hour. But now we find only 3 trains plying without touching Vizag Station.

It was not a Rumour. A few months ago, Platform extention and new tracks were being laid till Duvvada. As a result for about two months trains termaniting at Vizag were allowed into the Vizag Station. On the other hand Trains passing through Vizag were routed through Duvvada. Once the Track works have been completed. Trains as usual entered vizag (Engine has to be detached and attached to the rear end and the train would move back in the same direction it came into the station).

Its a great unfortunate of the people of Vizag no one (Politicians, Officials, etc) is interested to solve the problems of Visakhapatnam Railway Station. Its so rich in income, but very poor in amenities. I pity the Govt. of AP as well as the concerned leaders, in this connections. The main problem is lack of unity. Due to lack of unity the problem is continuously persisting.
