When convicted serial child rapist Jeffrey Epstein purchased the island in 1998 for $8M USD, this main home and associated cabanas already existed, along with a kidney bean shaped pool. Sometime between late 2009 and before 2013 (when much of the construction of the island was done), Epstein redid the pool, making it rectangular, and added some more buildings around it, renovated by Edward Tuttle, a designer of the Aman Resorts.
