Saint John, one of the US Virgin Islands, became property of the United States in 1917 when it was purchased from the Dutch in order to prevent a German offensive from these islands. St John is home to many world renowned bays and cays. Popular for its beaches, snorkeling, scuba diving, and bar scene -- it is considered the most laid back of the 3 US Virgin Islands. It is accessible by ferry via St Thomas. US Citizens do not need a passport to travel there, only a drivers id from any of the states or territories.

  • Much of the island was bought by the Rockefellers then passed on the the US Park Service. Much like they did at Grand Tetons national Park
