this complex of buildings was built for the male psych population. it features long cellblocks where people were obviously held in various degrees of solitary confinement with a laboratory and visiting facilities onsite it was a nearly self sufficient entity and that's just the portion that still exists. a quarter of it burned down long before i arrived. no architectural or contextual documentation has been uncovered at the time of this writing. a lack of documentation not withstanding i can tell you that this complex housed A LOT of people at one time and included extensive clinical and therapeutic infrastructure. the courtyards created by the arrangement of the cell blocks was clearly more than a place to let the inmates and patients stretch their legs. there is evidence of a large chicken and duck population as well as possibly an aviary, workshops, classrooms and sheds among the truly massive oak (i think) trees that dominate every corner of what is actually a very calm and relaxing atmosphere. today of course its inhabited by coyote, skunks and cats....
