On 22 February 1944 B-17G s/n 42-31322 "Mi Amigo", 305th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, US Army Air Corps based at Chevelston, Northamptonshire, was returning from a raid on a Luftwaffe airfield in Denmark. Badly damaged and a hundred miles off course, She crashed in Endcliffe Park with the loss of all ten crew on board. This memorial was dedicated in 1969 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the crash, by the Sheffield branch of the RAF Association.
