Kiva is an unincorporated community in Alger County, Michigan. First settled in 1880 by the Huber family the town was then known as Whitefish due to its proximity to Whitefish River. It was later renamed West Limestone due to its location in Limtestone Township. On 11 Dec 1915 a Post Office was established and the town was named Kiva after the shortened name of its Postmaster, Sigrid Kivimaki. Although the post office closed in 1967, the community retains the name.
