Sound Stage 28 (Phantom Stage)

USA / California / West Hollywood /
historical layer / disappeared object, sound stage

Demolished in September, 2014. It is now only a memory. This historic stage was razed so they could expand the "theme park." Very short sighted.

Known as the Phantom Stage, hidden at the rear of this stage were the original sets for the Paris Opera house, as built for The Phantom of the Opera in 1925. Parts of the auditorium set still survived, making them the oldest surviving movie sets in the world. The Phantom stage was also unique in that no other sound stage in Hollywood history has been named after a single film. This stage was the oldest on the Universal lot.

Productions that have filmed here include:
-The Phantom of the Opera (1925) - This is why it's called the Phantom Stage. Some say that it is haunted by the Phantom of the Opera.
