Asadi named basava used to go over to Chandragutti fair every year with his companions. He was the supreme devotee of Marki-Durgi and while he was once wandering in the Chandragutti region with plates and bowls , the people there obstructed and troubled him. This pained Basava and the people of his region as well felt affronted and become angry.Next year asadi Basava did not attend the Chandragutti fair and remained at sirsi praying to god. One night in his dreams he felt like hearing a female voice saying, "i am Dyamavva ; i am in the tank of your village here. Lift me up". Sentimental Basava thrilled by this , communicated this episode to the headman too. They all set out to test. It was a test for Basava also. The whole village gathered on the banks of the tank. He took three rounds of the tank praying and said ! "Oh ! mother , show your signs wherever you are," and while burning incense something floating in the tank was visible. It was a box and on opening the contents were the parts of the deity. It was a great surprise to the headman who had threatened Basava with ransom in case he failed to prove. The parts of the idol were set right and it was the lovely idol of Shri Devi.".
