The Serra de Caldas Novas State Park is located between the towns of Caldas Novas and Rio Quente, in the Southeast of Goias State and only 5 km away from the center of Caldas Novas, and 174 km from Goiânia.

It has an area of 123 square kilometers in form ellipse, with the top consisting of a large plateau, with steep sides that form natural walls, and the foothill doing division with farms and urban settlements.

It was established in 1970 with the objective of protecting the catchment area of the rain that fuels the thermal blanket, a principal agent in the development of tourist and leisure complex that was established in the region, making the towns of Caldas Novas and Rio Quente, the largest hotel complex in the world to use these resources in combination with thermal tourism.

In 1998 alone, through resources FURNAS POWER PLANTS (as compensation for the environmental impact caused by the installation of the Power Plant in the region of Corumbá I) won and harmonious modern physical infrastructure with Administrative Headquarters, Reception Centre, Accommodation for Researchers and guards.

Considered small in terms of protection of biome, however, has a well preserved specimen of this ecosystem.

Its proximity facilitates the access of urban community and tourists, which consequently requires a control of visitation, so the park to fulfill its mission of preserving the Cerrado and the hydrothermal spring, as the Serra de Caldas is an important point of this recharge spring. At the same time promoting the visitation, without negatively affecting the environment, the Park is an active agent in environmental education in the community and research space for the Cerrado.
