This is the end of the Road to Nowhere. It's the local name for Lakeview Dr or New Fontana Rd which was going to connect Bryson City, NC with Fontana, TN. But they ran into environmental and financial issues and the road was never completed. It dead ends in the middle of the National Park at a tunnel. A trail continues on from the tunnel.
