Albert Lea is a city located in Freeborn County, Minnesota. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 18,016. It is the county seat of Freeborn County.

The City was first settled in 1855, was platted in 1856, organized as a Township in 1857, and incorporated as a city March 11, 1878.

The post office began in 1856. Albert Lea had a station of the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railroad (Soo Line) and the Chicago Great Western Railroad. The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad served Albert Lea from 1869 until 1980, with a line now operated by the Iowa, Chicago and Eastern.
