Built 1956 at a cost of over $1 million, and never completed. (For comparison, Lambeau Field in Green Bay, an NFL stadium seating 32,000, was built in 1957 for $950,000). The north stands, seating 5,000, started falling apart almost right away, and the south stands (intended to seat another 5,000) were never completed. By the mid-60s, Gary schools, the intended tenants, refused to use it for safety reasons, and that was pretty much the end for Gilroy Stadium.
