Owned and operated by the Government of Nunavut, Rankin Inlet Airport is a public-use airport which serves the community of Rankin Inlet and the surrounding area with both scheduled and charter air transport services. Expanded in 1990 to lengthen the runway to 6,000ft as part of the airfield's accommodation of a Canadian Air Force/NORAD Forward Operating Location, the airfield was upgraded again in 2005 to include a larger passenger and cargo apron as well as the installation of a modernized Instrument Landing System.
