MEERUT: In a bizarre case, two women aged about 25 each and belonging to broken homes, allegedly strangled the parents of one of the women, who had been Miss Meerut in 2005 and also participated in other beauty pageants.
Both women were on Monday evening arrested from Meerut's TP Nagar area and booked for the murder of the elderly couple. The murders were committed on the night of November 10.
According to Meerut SSP Raghubir Lal, "We first thought it was a blind case because it was difficult to imagine that two young and educated women were behind it. It was the past of the girls' families that gave us clues."
Police said Priyanka, who had been a beauty queen and had done a fashion designing course after her graduation, was daughter of a retired junior engineer in the power corporation, Prem Singh, 64, and Santosh, 62. The family lived at 48, Prem Prayag Colony.
