Salkani is a beatiful tiny village in the midst of Western ghats. The village has cool weather ranging from 10-35 degree centigrade. Being in ghat section, recives an annual rainfall of around 3000mm. Population may be around 500. Salkani is part of Shantapur seeme under the auspice of Swarnamalli Matt's 16 seemas. Salkani is the center for neighboring villages like Naigar, Kadabal, Koligar etc, for middle school education,for public transportation, health care, business and entertainment needs. People here belong various communities among Hindus. Most of them are Havyaka Brahmins with Hegade as last name. They must have been around for 500-700 years. People from other caste came here in the last century to do either trade or for work. They cultivate Arecanut, Cardamom, Black pepper, Banana, Coconut, Vanilla. They also grow paddy during rainy season.
