This is the boxcut for the two parallel decline shafts that will dip at -8.5°, one for personnel and machinery and the other for a conveyor. Both shafts measure 5.5 m wide x 6.0 m high and are spaced 20 m apart. Every 100 m down decline, a 20 m cross-cut between the drives and twin remuck cubbies are required.

The Kakula box cut was successfully completed on October 26, 2017, and the first blast for the twin declines at Kakula took place on November 16, 10 days ahead of schedule. The Contractor for the shafts is JMMC, a DRC subsidiary of JCHX Mining Management of Beijing, China. Depending on ground conditions, the 3,600-metre decline development contract is scheduled for completion in approximately one year.
