Caimanero Lagoon

The lagoon is quite shallow and faces rapid silting. In the rainy season it may swell to 134 square kilometers but the dry season shrinks it to 67.
The lagoon's main outlet is the Agua Dulce Channel at the southern end of the lagoon. The Agua Dulce channel flows into the Baluarte River estuary before reaching the sea.

The Caimanero Lagoon's twin is the Huizache Lagoon to the northwest. The two are frequently paired as single unit: the Huizache-Caimanero lagoon.
