Set between the lagoon and the sea and surrounded by jungles where elephants roam, Komari is a delightful village which time forgot. And then the tsunami smashed through it. However due to the excellent work of Gihan De Zoysa and SOS there are new houses and resettlements and Komari lives again. Northern Komari is Methodist. The south is Hindu. But the south has intermarried with Sinhalese from the nearby inland areas. There is also a strong influence of Dutch in the presence of the Bartholomeusz family genes in Komari.
