The site of a German artillery battery in the Normandy Invasion (north of the actual manor).

Originally thought to be 88 mm guns, later found out to be 105 mm howitzers.

The battery was responsible for bombarding Allied troops making their way off Utah Beach along Causeway #2.

First Lieutenant Richard Winters, a commanding officer of Easy Company of the 506th PIR, a regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, led a small force of about 13 soldiers and disabled the battery, thus making it easier for troops advancing from Utah Beach.

The battery has been immortalized in various media. The HBO adaptation of Stephen Ambrose's book "Band of Brothers" which follows the same Easy Company through WW2, contains a scene devoted to the skirmish.

Also, the PC game "Call of Duty" (2003) contains a single-player map and a multi-player map where gameplay takes place at the battery at Brecourt Manor.
