Mount Ziqwala is an extinct volcano with its peak at elevation of 2,998m (9,837ft) above sea level in central Ethiopia about 85km (53mi) south of Addis. It has a 163m (535ft) crater (measured from the peak to the surface of the lake) with a freshwater lake at the center. On the top of the mountain lies an ancient monastery; it has two Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Churches built near each other, one of which is dedicated to St. Gebre Menfes Kidus, simply referred to "Abo", and the other to "Kidane Mihret" ("Covenant of Mercy" i.e., St. Mary).
