Wicken Wood is a ring fenced block of 193.96 acres (78.4 hectares) of mixed deciduous and coniferous woodland. Originally forming part of Whittlewood Forest, a large medieval Royal hunting forest, Wicken Wood comprises five named areas of woodland; Wicken Wood, Notamore Copse, Libby Wood, Great Clouts and Little Clouts. In this respect, the whole of Wicken Wood is classified as either Ancient Semi-Natural Woodland (ASNW) or Planted Ancient Woodland Site (PAWS).
The wood principally contains mixed broadleaves, the majority of which were either planted in the 1950s or 1990s. Oak and Ash are the predominant species with an understorey of Hazel and Hawthorn. Birch, Corsican Pine and Scots Pine are found in places
