"Elda Castle" built in 1929 for the co-founder of Abercrombie & Fitch, David Thomas Abercrombie, and was designed by his wife Lucie who was its architect. At 4,337 square feet, the castle comes with four bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms — on 49.6 acres with commanding views of the Hudson River. The castle features include an open patio with a fireplace and a cast iron spiral staircase that leads to a tower — and a guest house. After marrying in 1896, the Abercrombies had four children: Elizabeth, Lucy, David and Abbott. Elda Castle is named for the first letter of each of their four children. The castle ended up becoming a retreat and place of comfort for the Abercrombies after two of their kids died in tragic accidents.
