Jangansa, located at the base of Bulkwangsan, dates back to 673. Jangansa was founded by Wonhyo-daesa.
Originally, the temple was called Ssangyesa, but it was later changed by King Chungjang sometime around 1350. In 1592 Jangansa was burned to the ground by the invading Japanese and rebuilt in 1638. Jangansa was restored in 1654, and 1975.
Daeungjeon, the main worship hall, is designed by the City of Busan as Ancient Monument #37.
