Fine Food

The Mifflin Inn was founded in 1816 as a Stage Coach stop in the early pioneer days by Cyrus Keefer. Mifflin Inn has always been a popular place for delicious food and fine liquors, operating on the Lincoln Highway, one of the main arteries joining the West with the East.

William Henry Harrison stopped here for luncheon during his campaign for the presidency in 1840.

The Inn has burned to the ground three times, the last time on June 24, 1940. It was then owned by Willa King Dow, it was rebuilt for the third time in 1940.

Janet Chamberlain, 73, who bought the Mifflin Inn in 1983 died on March 22, 2017. Janet ran the restaurant located at 35 Maine Street (Lincoln Highway) for 34 years. After her husband (Hilbert Schrack) died in 1989, Chamberlain continued to operate the restaurant and even did all her own bookkeeping.

Known for its white fish, handmade deep-fried mushrooms and salad bar with homemade specialties - including pickled eggs, creamy cucumbers and homemade croutons - the restaurant had a bar, a banquet room and large dining room. The menu had something for everyone, from chicken livers to pork chops.
